What real estate photographers actually shoot with

We read the camera metadata off listing photos in the Phoenix and Tucson MLS for two years. Nobody has to guess at this. It is measurable, so we measured it.

Arizona’s most-shot camera is a 2013 entry-level DSLR

A Canon Rebel T5i is a crop-sensor body that sells used for a few hundred dollars, and it sits behind more Arizona listings than anything else — 26,645 of them, 25.4% of every listing whose camera we could read.

Only 8,619 of those 26,645 listings also carry a photographer credit. Those 8,619 trace to just 21 people, at 410 listings each. The other 18,026 name nobody, so we cannot say who shot them — only that the credited share of this camera’s output is extraordinarily concentrated.

By comparison the Canon R5, the body more photographers in the credited subset own than any other, is carried by 49 of them at nine listings each.

What this does and does not mean

It is a fleet, not a preference. That concentration is one high-volume operator standardising a whole team on a cheap, replaceable body. Read across years and you can watch them re-equip: 23,272 T5i listings in 2025 falling to 3,373 in 2026, while the Canon EOS RP climbs from 527 to 6,541. One company changed cameras. That is why we publish the window and both rankings rather than a single “most popular camera” headline, which flips depending on which year you look at.

The useful finding is the inversion. The bodies photographers actually buy — R5, R6 Mark II, A7 IV — shoot a low single-digit share of the listings in this state. The volume is being produced on equipment chosen for replacement cost. If you are deciding whether a better body will grow your business, this dataset has nothing encouraging to say about that, and we sell no cameras either way.

Nearly one listing in five was shot on a phone

19,164 listings — 18.3% of everything with readable metadata — carry a phone in the camera field, overwhelmingly recent iPhone Pro models. That number is a floor, not a ceiling: phones and export tools strip metadata more often than cameras do, so the true share is higher.

Our own row

ListerPros, the production company that publishes this site, is in this dataset like everyone else, and here is what it says about us. We shot 6,491 of these listings. Only 1,287 of them (19.8%) came back with readable camera metadata at all.

That is not a flattering number and it is the most useful one on this page. Our own delivery workflow strips metadata about four times out of five, which is exactly why every coverage figure here is a floor rather than a measurement. If we had quietly dropped our own rows, the limitation would have been easier to state and harder to believe.

Counting drone bodies the same way as the sitewide 8.3% figure above, 137 of our 1,287 credited frames (10.6%) are drone.
