76 - Common Drone Mistakes And How To Avoid Them

As drone technology becomes more accessible, more people are looking to use drones for various purposes, including aerial photography and videography. However, as a beginner, there are some common mistakes you should be aware of, and in this video, we'll discuss nine mistakes that beginners often make when flying drones and how to avoid them. Mistake number one is flying the drone too high. While it can be exciting to push your drone to the limit, the best perspectives for aerial photography are usually achieved at around 200 feet or below. So don't be tempted to fly too high, and instead focus on getting the best shots from a lower altitude. Mistake number two is not being aware of all obstacles. Always check for the highest obstacle in the area and try to fly at a higher altitude to avoid running into trees, bushes, power lines, or light posts. This will prevent accidents and keep your drone safe. Mistake number three is flying your drone too long. It's not a good idea to fly your drone when your battery percentage is below 20%. Always carry extra batteries with you, and swap them out when the battery level reaches 25%. Mistake number four is not having enough batteries. Always carry at least three batteries with you, especially if you have multiple aerial shoots on your schedule. This will ensure that you're not stressed out and can complete all your shoots without worrying about battery life. Mistake number five is not being intentional when flying. Have a plan as to what you're going to accomplish and where you're going to fly your drone. This will help you save time and battery life by focusing on the shots you need. Mistake number six is attempting high-risk shots. Avoid flying your drone inside a home or attempting high-risk shots that could damage the property or put yourself in danger. Use common sense and don't attempt anything that could result in a disaster. Mistake number seven is not updating your drone. Always check for firmware updates before heading out for your shoots. This will ensure that your drone is up to date and ready to fly. Mistake number eight is flying in bad weather. Don't fly your drone in windy or rainy conditions, as this can put your drone at risk and the footage or pictures may not turn out well. It's always best to reschedule the shoot for a day with better weather. Mistake number nine is not using the gimbal clamp. Always use the gimbal clamp to reduce camera and gimbal shaking during transport and extend the life of your equipment. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure a smooth and successful drone flight. Remember to always prioritize safety and be intentional when flying your drone.
