81 - The Settings | Aerial Photography

I'd like to share with you all the settings that I use for shooting aerial photography. After spending a lot of time testing different modes and settings, I found that shooting single exposure DNG RAW files is the way to go for excellent quality and a simple editing workflow. I didn't see significant improvements in image quality when shooting multiple exposures or HDR modes, and shooting in JPEG can limit editing options. For camera settings, I usually shoot in automatic mode as it delivers great results without much work on my part. I keep an eye on my exposure, making sure to adjust it up or down during the shoot by adjusting the EV settings. I set my file type to JPEG plus RAW or just RAW, depending on the drone and its options. For photo size aspect ratio, I usually set it to 4:3, although 3:2 is also an option with some drones like the Mavic 2 Pro. For white balance, I set it to auto, and for color, I set it to normal. I prefer to shoot in single mode for photo shooting mode. One thing to keep in mind is that shooting in RAW allows me to adjust the white balance during the editing process, even if the camera didn't get it right during the shoot. And when it comes to exposure, it's always easier to bring up shadows than to recover highlight information that isn't there. Overall, these settings have worked well for me in capturing high-quality aerial photos. And if I make any additional adjustments, I'll be sure to update my quick reference sheet for my settings.
