Today, we'll be discussing how to balance three different gimbals: the Zhiyun Crane 2, the DJI Ronin S, and the DJI Ronin SC2. Balancing your gimbal is essential to achieve smooth and stable footage during your video shoots, and it's important to know how to balance different types of gimbals. In this post, we'll go through each of the gimbals and provide a step-by-step guide on how to balance them.
The three gimbals we'll be discussing are all great options for mirrorless cameras, but they have slightly different features and are suited for different purposes. The Zhiyun Crane 2 is a great option for higher payload cameras as it has more powerful motors, while the DJI Ronin S is perfect for professional videographers. The DJI Ronin SC2, on the other hand, is super light and is great for real estate videography. Regardless of the gimbal you choose, the process for balancing them is essentially the same.
First up is the Zhiyun Crane 2. The gimbal has different axes that need to be adjusted, including the flight for the camera, the axis that goes up and down, the roll axis, and the gimbal center of gravity. To start, remove the camera plate and make sure that your camera is set up the way you plan to shoot. Place the camera on the plate and align the arrows on the plate with the arrows on the gimbal. Tighten the bolts, making sure they're snug but not too tight.
Next, adjust the different axes to balance the camera. Start with the flight axis and make sure the camera doesn't dip too far forward or back. Then, work on the axis that goes up and down and adjust it so that the camera stays in place when pointed up or down. Next, adjust the roll axis to ensure that the camera stays level when panning left or right. Finally, adjust the center of gravity axis to avoid straining your arm when holding the gimbal for an extended period.
After adjusting all the axes, turn on the gimbal and ensure that it's level. If it's tilting, make small adjustments using the joystick. While this process may seem daunting at first, it's essential to take your time and adjust each axis carefully to achieve the best results.
Next up is the DJI Ronin S. The process for balancing this gimbal is similar to the Zhiyun Crane 2, but there are some slight differences. First, make sure the locking lever is in the unlock position and align the arrows on the camera plate with the arrows on the gimbal. Tighten the bolts and make sure the camera stays level when placed on the gimbal.
Next, adjust the different axes, starting with the flight axis, then the up and down axis, and the roll axis. The DJI Ronin S also has a pan motor that needs to be adjusted. Make sure the camera doesn't put too much stress on the pan motor, and adjust it as needed.
Finally, turn on the gimbal and ensure that it's level. Adjust the joystick if necessary, and you're ready to shoot!
Last but not least, we have the DJI Ronin SC2. This gimbal is super light and is perfect for real estate videography. It's also easy to set up and requires minimal adjustments once you've set it up. Remove the camera plate and align the arrows on the plate with the arrows on the gimbal. Tighten the bolts and ensure that the camera stays level.
